Top 5 Summer Nail Polish Picks

I am Autumn baby through and through but I can't deny that all of this London sunshine puts me in a good mood (most of the time). More than anything I am loving that it is acceptable to be walking around a very questionable shade of orange - my fake tan is a tad out of control but I just don't tan naturally!

To bring out my fake tan even more I am currently loving these five shades:
Greenberry, Barry M This is one of my all-time favourite shades. It is a beautifully bright turquoise that benefits from the super shiny formula of the Barry M Gelly range.

Bora Bora, Models Own I wore this shade during my trip to Cannes last year and fell in love with it. It is a really subtle gold that looks perfect when it catches the Sun.

Totally Turmeric, Topshop This shade reminds me of a Moroccan market. It's a vibrant orange that caught my eye for being a little bit different to the usual brights.

Too Cool To Tango, Rimmel I have already written about this shade here but I still can't get enough. A beautifully bright blue.

Down To The Core-Al, OPI This is a very red based coral (as opposed to orange) which I quite like for something a bit different. The only thing I'm not too keen on with this is the matte finish but a top coat will fix this!

What shades are you wearing on your nails this summer?

TBT: Drama, Drama, Drama!

In October 2012 I was outside my front door, carrying the birthday present I had bought for myself - a Mulberry Del Rey - in a beautiful purple Liberty bag, and speaking to my dad on the phone when I heard a couple arguing inside my building. I thought nothing of it and carried on with my conversation.

I called my mum and headed inside, up the stairs, and into the flat. I remember seeing my flatmate tying her trainers outside her bedroom but, again, thought nothing of it. Her cats adored me and followed me into my room. I shut the door and continued chatting away to my mum. All of a sudden my flatmate and her husband started having a blazing row which sounded pretty violent. She then shouted at me through my door 'Emma get down'. I absolutely shat my pants. From the way they were both talking I thought he had a gun. This sounds like an insane conclusion to jump to but he had just come back from Afghanistan so I thought he may have the means and he was a tad cuckoo anyway.

I instantly went into panic/survival mode. My poor mum was flipping out on the phone as I asked her to call the police as I thought my flatmate had a gun. It was terrifying. I hung up from my mum and started moving things in front of my door to block it. I put my trainers on in case I needed to jump out of the window (a stupid thought really as we were on the top floor of a 3 storey house) and tried desperately to calm the cats down.

Luckily for me my flatmate managed to coax her hubby out of the flat. She told me later that he tried to strangle a taxi driver and about ten armed police officers pinned him to the ground in sleepy Hampstead. He didn't actually have a gun. He wasn't well after his stint in the Army which is actually pretty sad but I knew that I would never feel safe again in that place.
So me and the boyf moved. The flat wasn't the greatest and clearly, neither were our flatmates, but the area was amazing and I loved those cats like crazy. I kind of wish I had stolen them!

I'm not really a believer in much but I do tend to think that things happen for a reason. If my flatmate hadn't gone psycho on me I might not have moved so soon and I almost certainly would not have bought the little flat that I am in now. Sometimes life throws you a curveball and you just have to roll with it.
This is one of my all time fave shots of the boyf with Mooey (aka Fatsy).

Sorry for the long and, kind of meaningless, post. You can never have too many shots of cats though, eh?

Haven't You Heard The Rumours

Hope you are all having a lovely, lazy Sunday afternoon. I am chilling at home today doing some home improvements, house work, and True Blood watching. I am also listening obsessively to Fleetwood Mac on my new (ish) Crosley record player. I kind of hate myself for having a record player as they are so hipster now days but I had wanted one forever for the sole purpose of playing this record. So play it I will!

Happy Sunday!

MAC Vegas Volt Review

I went on a little MAC spending spree a month or so ago and ended up buying three new lipsticks. One of those was Vegas Volt, a beautifully bright coral from the Amplified range. As with all colours from the Amplified collection, Vegas Volt is incredibly pigmented with a creamy formula.
I am a bit obsessed with this colour at the moment as it is perfect for summer but I would like it to last a bit longer on the lips.

TBT: Daytrippin'

If I had to pick somewhere other than London to live in the UK it would definitely be Brighton. There is something about the place that I just love.
It's quaint but edgy with an amazing mix of vintage and up-and-coming stores. I even like the pebble beach as I'm not a huge fan of sand.
How can you not love a place that has bikes casually parked in the street like this? And with brightly coloured doors on cute little houses?
One of my favourite things is the old pier. I love the silhouette it makes against the sun-speckled sea. So pretty.

I can't be sure when exactly these photographs were taken. If I had to guess I would say about three years ago. I took them during a jaunt to the seaside town with the boyf. Perfect day.

NYC Hand Luggage

Last month I went to New York with my mum, her friend, and the boyf. I will do a 'proper' post on the trip later on but to get you in the mood I thought I'd show you what I took on to the plane with me.

When I travel I wear cozy clothes and pack the bare essentials in my hand luggage. This time around I wore some Primark jeggings, a white tee, and a black hoodie. I tend to get cold on the plane so always wear some form of sweatshirt. I wear socks too as my feet get freezing! I teamed my socks with a new pair of Vans for this trip. I was pleased with my choice of footwear as they are so comfy!

I bought the bag from a friend. I had really wanted a backpack for walking around and it just so happened that she was selling this little number so I snapped it up. I never take a lot of stuff in my hand luggage. This time around I packed the usual suspects: phone, purse, passport, sunglasses, and book (Giovanni's Room). Beauty-wise I take hardly anything. I do my make up before I leave and then refresh when I get to the accommodation at the other end. I only took Vaseline and hand cream on this flight so that I didn't make my grand entrance into NYC looking like a a prune. Worked like a charm!

Same Sun, Different Setting

LONDON This was taken in Swiss Cottage from the balcony of a flat we used to live in. Somewhere amongst the silhouette is the arch of Wembley stadium.
VIENNA Taken at the pretty Prater in Austria's capital
WHITSUNDAYS Captured on a ship in the middle of the ocean. I threw up over the side of the boat once the sun had gone down!
SYDNEY-BANGKOK Standard sunset snap shot from the airplane.
HALONG BAY This is one of our favourite places in the world. It is stunningly beautiful and so peaceful. The sunset was magical.
LOS ANGELES I love this picture. It reminds me of Baywatch!
FIJI This wasn't the best picture of the sun that we took but I love that it has the men rowing. It gives a sense of the place.
SIEM REAP We climbed the world's steepest stairs to picture the sunset at Siem Reap. Well worth the risk to our lives! Just look at the colour of the Sun.
KOH SAMUI Without doubt one of my favourite places ever. We didn't manage to get a really good sunset pic.
CAIRNS Sleepy Cairns was one of my fave places in Australia. I like this pic because of the two Buddhist monks in the foreground.
LONDON My beloved London again! This time a sunset from Hampstead Heath.
AUCKLAND This is the only photo of a sunset I have from NZ and it's from the blinkin' car! Not great but I love the tower to the right.
LONDON I was born and raised in London so it's only fair that I take more pics here than anywhere else! This one has a place in my heart because the Eye is peeking at me from the right.
CANNES That little white dot is actually the Moon!
ALBUFEIRA Taken in Portugal at a sandcastle exhibition. Strange but true!
BERLIN Ah, the Brandenburg Gate. Iconic.
KOS Not the best sunset but special to me as this was taken on one my first holidays with the boyf.
SYDNEY Sunset-lit clouds provide the best backdrop for a bridge shot.
HANOI-HO CHI MINH Taken from the train to Ho Chi Minh. Head out of the window like a dog!
LONDON Ending with another London shot. A beautiful orange glow in Walthamstow.

Other than learning that the big old Sun shines on us all I have discovered that a good sunset shot needs at least a few clouds to become a great sunset shot.
